Wat Hua Kuang (Wiang Tha Kan archaeological site)

Wat Hua Kuang

The Fine Arts Department excavated HuaKuang temple in 1988 CE. The front of HuaKuang temple turned to the south instead of the east. The Vihara and stupa's bases were separated. The Vihara had a rectangular wall aligning from the north to the south, and the stupa was situated right behind it. The stupa had a square base surrounded by a low-wall balcony and Prataksina yard. There also was a pavilion base made of bricks located in the west of the balcony.

The excavation has showed many parts of architectures, sculptures and artifacts made of baked clay and metal. They also found many baked clay Buddha votive tablets which had been created since Hariphunchai period until the end of Lanna period (17'-24'h Century BE) The others are earthenware of San Kam Pang kiln, San Sai kiln, Wang Nuea kiln(1994-20 Century BE) and Wieng Kalong kiln (19-22 Century BE), and many pieces of Chinese and Vietnamese porcelains of 17"-25 Century BE had been found too. After examining all these archaeological finds, it assured that this historical site had been existed continually since Hariphunchai period until Ratanakosin period.
